Country House, Carcasonne,
The existing garden was rich with mature trees and wide lawns that wrap around a fine country house that dating back to the 13th Century. but whilst the garden had privacy and greenery it lacked coherence and excitement.
We designed a master-plan; to create new spaces and connect up old - new views and vistas through to the vineyards and countryside beyond and new planting in the foreground to give colour and interest where it’s been absent.
In the first of two phases we planted over 2,500 plants and trees. A previously functional path to the tennis court is now a walkway of cushion pruned flowering evergreens laid out beneath a high tree canopy. We removed tired hedges to create an acre of stylish Mediterranean gravel garden to frame the entrance of the house, gave shape and structure to planting of the wild ponds and opened up a new view from the house by removing a section of trees to frame the view beyond with newly planted mature Cyprus.
Phase 2 in the autumn includes more planting and hard landscaping round the Swimming Pool.
